Template sharing guide
Share a reusable photo stamp template with a QR code
A reusable template saves the layout and style decisions you have already made. Share a compact template as a QR code, or use a file when the template includes a logo or is too large for a code.
What a photo stamp template shares
A template is a reusable design for a photo stamp: its selected metadata fields, text or logo overlays, layout, and styling. It lets someone start from a consistent design instead of rebuilding every choice. It does not package the photo currently in the editor; the recipient applies the template to a photo in their own library.
Download Metadata Engraver on the App Store on the iPhone or iPad that will create or receive the template.
Share a template as a QR code
- In Metadata Engraver, open Templates and choose a template to share.
- Open its share options. If a QR code is available, display it on the screen or send a clear image of it to the recipient.
- On the receiving device, open Templates and tap the QR scanner. Allow camera access if iOS asks.
- Point the camera at the code. Check the template name, then tap Add Template to put it in the library and apply it to the current photo.
QR sharing is intended for compact templates without logos. Some templates are too large to fit in a scannable code; the share screen offers a file option for those cases.
When to use a template file
A template with a logo, or one that exceeds the QR payload limit, can still be shared as a .metadataengraver file. Choose Share as File and send it through an available sharing method. The receiving device can open the file with Metadata Engraver and add the imported template.
Use the file route when you need to preserve logo artwork or when QR sharing is unavailable. The app keeps templates local until you choose to add them. Keep the original logo asset separately if you also need it outside the shared template.
What transfers—and what does not
The shared item is the template: its name, overlay design, layout, and compatible style settings. The selected photograph itself is not included. That keeps the template reusable and avoids sending the photo as part of the template share. The recipient can apply the design to a different image and adjust fields that are unavailable in that image.
A stamp’s visible design and the image’s hidden EXIF metadata are separate. A template controls the overlay; it does not create missing GPS or camera data in the receiving photo. See the guide to EXIF, IPTC, and XMP and the product privacy guide for more context.
If the QR code will not scan
- Make sure the code is a Metadata Engraver template QR, not a link or unrelated QR code.
- Increase screen brightness and hold the code steady inside the camera frame; avoid glare, blur, or cropping.
- Confirm camera permission is enabled. If you cannot use the camera, ask the sender for the template file instead.
- If the share screen says the template is too large for QR, use Share as File. Logo-bearing templates use this route.
- After a successful scan, tap Add Template to confirm; scanning alone does not add it.
Sharing a template is a quick way to reuse a good design with family, teammates, or another device. Get Metadata Engraver on the App Store and try it with a template of your own.
Photo stamp template sharing questions
Can I share a photo stamp template with another iPhone?
Yes. Share an eligible template as a QR code for the recipient to scan in Templates, or send a .metadataengraver file.
Can a QR template include a logo?
Logo-bearing templates are shared as a .metadataengraver file instead. That preserves the logo without requiring it to fit in the QR code.
Does the QR code send the photo too?
No. It shares the template design, not the photo being edited. The recipient applies it to a photo on their own device.
Why is there no QR code for my template?
The template may include a logo or its data may be too large for a QR code. Use Share as File instead.
